Spontanious mutation from ACI/NKyo inbred at Kyoto University in 1999.
Strain characteristics
This mutant rat shows beige coat color, giant granule cells in various tissues, and prolonged bleeding time. This mutant strain is a disease model for human Chediak-Higashi syndrome (CHS). This mutation is a deletion of about 20 kb containing exons 28, 29 and 30, which constitute the 578 bp sequence missing in the Lyst cDNA on rat chromosome 17. This mutant gene is allelic to Lystbe (DA-beige rat) but the putative deletion break points in L1 elements were different from it (Mori, 2003). The nested PCR-RFLP analysis is useful to discriminate Lystbe-Kyo from Lystbe (Masui, 2004). (09.5.21)
Breeding Conditions
