Origin
ACI/N rats are susceptible and BUF/Nac rats are resistant to MNNG-induced stomach carcinogenesis, and the presence of an autosomal gene with a dominant BUF allele has been suggested. By using ACI x (ACIxBUF)F1 backcross rats, one dominant susceptibility gene, Gcs1 (Gastric cancer susceptibility gene 1), and three dominant resistance genes, Gcr1 (Gastric cancer resistance gene 1), Gcr2, and Gcr3 have been mapped by QTL analysis for MNNG-induced stomach carcinogenicity. This congenic strain is homozygous for the ACI/N Gcs1 allele (on chr.15) on the BUF/Nac background.
